The time
has come, the walrus said, to grill many things...
By Grant
Well back in
the olden days when we were in high school, we were a silly
bunch. Not to say that we aren't anymore, just more lazy. Anyway,
occasionally my parents would go away for a weekend or a few days
on vacation. I had reached the point that if I didn't want to go
I didn't have to. So I would hold down the fort. Home alone baby!
It became quite an event when this took place. The crew would be
immediately notified. And action was taken. Days were taken off
from work, alibis were produced, etc.
I lived in a
secluded area, so late night noise wasn't much of a problem per
say. At some point near the beginning of these happenings, we
came up with the idea of cooking large amounts of meats on an
open flame well into the late hours of the night, often in the
dead of winter, which was even more of a taboo. Why you may ask?
BECAUSE WE COULD!!! A large part of freedom is doing something
you normally would not. It proved to be quite entertaining.
Thus the
Midnight Grill was born. We somewhat derived the name from the
Billy idol song "Rebel Yell" It contains the lyric
"In the midnight hour she cried more, more, more" When
we sing it we substitute "hour" for "grill. It has
a nice ring to it. Try it for yourself at home.
Nowadays we
have our own places and can grill anytime. But it seems we will
always be drawn to odd hours and inappropriate weather
conditions.
